Water safety

Water safety is about your supervision and building water confidence in your children.

We follow Life Saving Victoria's Watch Around Water guidelines to ensure every child is safe while enjoying aquatic activities.

Supervision guidelines

It is your responsibility to actively supervise your child at all times.

Drowning is silent and can happen in seconds. Active supervision means:

  • no distractions (e.g. phones, books, laptops)
  • staying close enough to intervene quickly
  • being aware of your child’s swimming ability and confidence.

Children under 5 years

  • must be constantly supervised and remain within arm’s reach
  • if the child is in water, the guardian must be in the water too.

Children under 10 years

  • must be accompanied into the centre and constantly supervised by a guardian
  • the guardian must always have a clear view of the child with no physical or structural barriers between them and the child.

How to build water confidence

Encourage your child to:

  • participate in regular swimming lessons
  • practice safe water play
  • learn basic water safety rules.

Our Learn to Swim program supports swimmers of all ages and abilities to build confidence, develop essential water safety skills and enjoy the water safely.

Help us keep everyone safe

Our team is not a substitute for parental supervision. Please follow these guidelines every visit.
